The name Transat was used as an abbreviation for Transatlantic referring to steamship travel and the deck chairs commonly used on such ships.
The Transat Chair has become one of Eileen Gray's most enduring and signature pieces.
Eileen Gray was born in Enniscorthy in Ireland in 1878.
